In 1933, a little-known independent producer, Frank Webb, created a cartoon character called Goofy Gus. According to publications of the time, he partnered with theatre owner Jacob Conn, Lew Robertson, and Harry Kahne to produce an animated short based on the character, which was entitled No Fare.
