Papa-Malachias, Papa-Haros and Papa-Bilias have founded the Priestly Band and make appearances at the nightclub "Xerokomata". Their abbot, who is learning their new occupation, comes to Athens, but fails to make sense of them. When he returns to the monastery of Medouli and tells everything to the other monks, they leave the monastery and form their own rebetika bands, causing a crisis in the field of folk song. At the same time, Papa-Lazaros, who is looking for a solution to his financial problems and at the same time is trying to find money to build a new wing for his parish's orphanage, is resorting to the following solution: setting up a football team with priests.

Based in Chinese opera, the film tells the story of a young scholar in the Tang Dynasty, Li Yi who travels to the capital Changan to take the national civil examination. During the Lantern Festival, he encounters Huo Xiaoyu in the night market and picks up the purple hairpin she leaves behind by chance. Using the hairpin as a token of love, Li proposes to her on that same night. However, “the course of true love never did run smooth.” With the assistance of a mysterious man in the yellow robe (Huangshanke), together they have to fight against the wicked plot of Official Lu.

The music in the film builds upon Ólafur’s critically praised new album ‘some kind of peace’ and was performed and recorded live on set, representing a constant cinematic conversation between picture and music. Vincent Moon’s intimate cinematic vision brings this layered metaphorical world to life as we see Ólafur’s music manifested and symbolised all around him through set design, lighting and dance. Through themes of rituals, relationships and exploration of our inner landscapes, this is a film focused on how we all move forward.
