Under the Khmer Rouge regime, Kaing Guek Eav, known as Duch, directed the M13 prison for four years, before becoming the head of S21, the terrifying death machine that eliminated Khmer Rouge opponents. Some 12,280 Cambodians met their deaths here. In July 2010, Duch was the first Khmer leader to appear before an international court, which sentenced him to 35 years in prison. He appealed the sentence. While Duch waited for his new trial, Rithy Panh questioned him in depth.

It is the word "horde" that had meant, for many countries and nations, bloody raids and being under humilating contribution for centuries - a strange and scary world with its own rules and customs. To be or not to be for Rus (Ruthenia), that is the price of the one-man mission as he is departing to this world to accomplish a feat. The film tells the story of how Saint Alexius, the Metropolitan of Moscow and Wonderworker of All Russia, healed the Tatar Queen Taidula, Jani-Beg's mother, from blindness, in 1357.
Girls of the Rain concludes Alida Dimitriou’s filmtrilogy on the contribution of women to political struggles in Greece during the twentieth century. The film is about women imprisoned and tortured during the Colonels’ dictatorship of 1967-1974. At the time, these womenwere in their twenties. Fifty women offer their testimonials. They all share the ethos of the women who took part in the National Resistance, and pursue the establishment of human dignity just as persistently. The “Girls of the Rain” consider themselves successors of those women. One of them said:“...we are their successors, just like the youth of today are our successors”. Remarkably, these are the words of a woman deprived by her torturers of the ability to have children.
Adele Spitzeder, an actress of medium talent, finds the role of her life as a dazzling financial genius, but in truth the operator of a gigantic pyramid scheme. With a brilliant appearance and empty promises, she serves the hopes and greed of her fellow human beings with virtuosity. Her enemies are just waiting for the pyramid to collapse and bury Adele - and countless small investors with her.
Has everything really been said about the Algerian war? Although the archives are opening up, almost fifty years after the signing of the Evian Agreements (March 18, 1962), direct witnesses are beginning to disappear. They are, however, unique bearers of history, often the only ones able to illustrate the harsh reality of a long-hidden period. Gérard Zwang, surgeon of the contingent between May 1956 and June 1958, is one of these essential witnesses who help us discover an original history of the Algerian War. During his service, in charge of treating the most atrocious wounds of his fellow soldiers, he sees the war from the side of its victims. He did not fight with a machine pistol in his hand, but behind the closed doors of an operating room where life gives way to death in a matter of seconds.
1962 - the year when Anita Lindblom sings Sånt är livet on TV and the Swedish national ice hockey team wins gold in Colorado. Ursula Wirth and Ewy Rosqvist win Argentina's Gran Premio for standard cars in fierce competition. The Third World War almost breaks out - the Cuban Missile Crisis pits the superpowers the USA and the Soviet Union against each other. Leif Erik Nygårds is in New York and takes a picture of Marilyn Monroe, just a few weeks before she dies. Bobby Fischer plays chess in Stockholm and wins.

Chile was given its name by the Incas who respectfully called it Chili, ‘the country in the south’. Only a short journey on a gravel road and the Atacama Desert begins. At its centre it is the driest desert in the world where the forces of nature have turned it into an extraordinary landscape. The Atacama extends between the Pacific Ocean and the Cordilleras, an area of stone and sand that is perforated only by various frequently dried out salt lakes. From the Atacama Desert in the north to as far as the stormy Tierra Del Fuego in the south, Chile is a country rich in contrast. Volcanoes, arid deserts, salt lakes, lively geysers, sandstone mountains and a cosmopolitan city. All of this is to be found in Chile, a country at the end of the world!
Jesse Owens details Jesse's early career; describes Adolf Hitler s outsized ambitions for the 1936 Olympics; explores the movement in Western democracies to boycott the event; and explains the pressures on Owens to attend. The film also explores why, despite his success in Germany, Owens struggled to find a place for himself in a United States that was still wrestling with its own deeply entrenched racism.
During the Homeland War (1991-1995) Croatia was devastated with estimates ranging from 20-25% of its economy destroyed. Tens of thousands were killed and many more were left homeless. Through the voices of common people, Homecoming tells a story about the raise of a small, invisible Balkan country with enormous natural and human beauty from the ashes of terror; the country which still bears the scars, both physical and psychological, of the conflict during the War of Independence. It reflects upon a part of history that, although can never be changed, has molded and influenced a generation in a positive way.
Tuberculosis has been present in humans since antiquity. Skeletal remains show prehistoric humans had TB, and tubercular decay has been found in the spines of mummies from 3000-2400 BC. Though this deadly disease may have traumatic connotations that infected hordes of people dating back to the early 1900s, today it is on the comeback trail with a wicked vengeance infecting up to one-third of the world's population. In 1905, Robert Koch received the Nobel Prize in Medicine for the discovery of the tubercle bacillus. We will journey through the successes and failures of a man whose legacy has impacted microbiology and infectious diseases to this day. The optimism in 1982 that TB would be eradicated by 2010 is no closer to reality than Koch's announcement of a cure in 1882. The onset of AIDS and the evolution of multi-drug resistant strains of the tubercle bacillus has, in many cases, returned us to the days of when supportive measures in sanatoriums was the only treatment.
