France, summer 2019 the Japanese artist Tetsuo Harada has just turned 70 years old. He has spent his life carving works for peace and respect for nature. In his 3000 m 2 workshop, he works tirelessly on new projects. This year, an exhibition is dedicated to him in Niigata, the snow country of the famous novel by Yasunari Kawabata, his native region. But the project that occupies his thoughts is something else, he, who always carve monumental stone works to link countries with each other with his famous Earth Weaving is about to revisit all of his work and career with a new ephemeral installation project: The Peace Weaving.

Their stories chronicle the devastating impact that environmental and cultural dispossession had on the flow of knowledge from Elders to youth, and ultimately on the health of their people. As their summer comes to an end, the youth emerge with "gifts" of knowledge and teachings from their Elders, inspiring a renewed determination to forge a hopeful and healthy future for the next generation.
A portrait of the artist at work. The film begins in 1972 with Johns repainting Air Ocean World based on Buckminster Fuller's dymaxion map. Johns work is traced over the next eighteen years. His Untitled, 1973, with its cross-hatching, flagstones, and anatomical parts become recurrent motifs, as Johns begins to imbed skulls and severed arms in them. The paintings become more personal as Johns gradually "drops the reserve" in his recent series, "The Seasons." The film culminates with Johns working on the final state of the etching based on "The Seasons."
