The film focuses on an epic battle in the history of China's War of Resistance against Japan, which shocked the world with its overwhelming force against a small enemy. In the 1944 Hengyang defense battle, the 10th Army of the Chinese front battlefield, with a force of less than 18,000 people, defended the city alone against the Japanese army with a total strength of 110,000 people outside the city for 47 days. The Chinese army suffered more than 16,000 casualties and the Japanese army suffered more than 48,000 casualties, creating the only record of the comparison of enemy and our forces and casualties since the War of Resistance. It dealt a heavy blow to the Japanese army's No. 1 operation launched by the Japanese headquarters and became a battle case comparable to any battle in World War II.

The girlish joy that Maryam describes in the first pages of the diary, the sudden invasion of enemies to their town, and finally her love story which is mentioned in the diary, motivates Bahar to continue reading it. Maryam was in love with a young intern who was working in the town's only clinic. Now Bahar thinks that the intern could be his father.

A metal worker goes to ground because he doesn't want to collaborate with the Germans. He joins the resistance movement and, after being wounded during a raid, he ends up in hospital. He escapes but is arrested not long after and taken to a concentration camp. He is executed in September 1944, just weeks before the Allied forces reach the camp. The name LO-LKP refers to the Landelijke Organisatie voor Hulp aan Onderduikers (National Organisation for People in Hiding) and the resistance movement Landelijke Knokploegen (national commandos), set up by the organisation. The film was commissioned by the LO-LKP after the war.
